infinity infinity
nitrogenic protein play
of paths that never ends.
infinity infinity
blown open for the peitry
in a pretty assay display.
infinity infinity
swerving in a helix
for the eye to navigate.
infinity infinity
just like the time and space
unfolding with beautiful grace.
infinity infinity
created from the dynamic
lingo that my figure ate.

I wrote this on a broadsheet prior to 2002, it is now in my 2014 book Nest. I was thinking at the time about chemicals and the shape they reveal about themselves. I determined that nitrogen can form a figure eight, like an infinity sign. I was also wondering about food and animal care in the farm environment. Fourteen years ago I became a vegan and have been so happy about the decision since. I also think about nitrogen's ability to help us heal, and often when I see something broken, or in need of mending, I suggest a “nitrogen net” to hold together a cast limb or tear. Veganism is healing, too, in that removing the burden of breeding children and what those ingested hormones do to change the way the body knows itself.
